Course Description

The purpose of this online course is to prepare future teachers to deliver instruction while using technology to enhance learning.  Students will learn how to integrate instructional technology tools into their evolving pedagogy. Integration strategies, multimedia, communication networks, the Internet, educational software, legal, ethical, and social issues, and classroom management tools comprise the contents. The curriculum for this course is based on the International Society in Education (ISTE) recommended foundations in technology for all teachers that have been adopted by the National Council for Accreditation of Teachers education (NCATE).

Course Goals

1.      Upon completion of this course students will acquire literacy skills in:

Ø      Computer components and their usage

Ø      Information through their accessing resources on World Wide Web

Ø      Integration of how to infuse computers and educational uses of technology into their discipline specific classroom curriculum,

2.      Students will be competent to:

·        Assess the technology-enriched classroom and Internet resources

·        Implement standards to develop lesson plans and instructional strategies in compliance with Florida Sunshine State standards

·        Acquire critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis skills regarding the integration of technology in their specific area effectively so it has a positive impact on student learning.

 

Course Objectives

Students shall

  1. Develop literacy skills in computers, information, and integration
  2. Understand which technology tools may be appropriate for specific teaching and learning situations
  3. Amplify their understanding of computers, networking, the Internet, and the World Wide Web as these elements pertain to K-12 education
  4. Demonstrate their understanding of the evaluation of web sites and software applications
  5. Describe security issues, copyright, and ethics of using the Internet and other technologies in the classroom while using the Internet
  6. Demonstrate proficiency in techniques involved in developing instructional materials in various formats
  7. Be able to plan appropriate applications of technology to specific instructional situations, to select or design and develop materials and strategies, and to evaluate objectively educational technologies.
  8. Acquire a fundamental knowledge of instructional theories and models concerning educational technology and their influence on technology integration
  9. Be able to use both PC and Macintosh computer platforms
  10. Enhance their skills in using word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation graphics, multimedia authoring software, and many other software programs

 

Pre-requisites

Students must have operational computers with Internet access, basic word processing skills (opening programs, folder creation, editing, formatting, save, upload, zipping files) and able to repair problems with their computers. Emphasis will be on the use of IBM compatible computers.

GRADE

90% of 1200 total = 1080 points for an A

80% of 1200 total = 960 points for a B

70% of 1200 total = 840 points for a C

65% of 1200 total = 780 points for a D

<65% of 1200 total = <780 points for a F
