Course Objectives According to District’s Course Outline Model:

The following were the course objectives adopted in 1995 when the course was submitted as the first Internet course at HCC. Since then the course has been modified, changed and grown.
(people no longer use Archie or Gopher):

  1. Describe and navigate the Internet and the World Wide Web.
  2. Send and receive electronic mail.
  3. Create HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) documents.
  4. Understand and use the Internet tools, including TCP/IP, Gopher, Telnet, FTP, Archie, and World Wide Web browsers.
  5. Describe the basic types of Internet connection.
  6. Describe guidelines for conduct on the Internet.

Web Site Bad links:

Bonus for bad links: As links are updated on the new web page of John Taylor: Any student finding a link on the John Taylor's web site which doesn’t work (of which there are many), email the instructor with the URL (copied from the address box) which gives you a file 404 error and the URL of the web page where the link is located. Ten points will be awarded for each link sent (20 points if on the CGS 1555 web site). The first person to find the bad link gets the bonus for that link, order of email received. The instructor will update the links each week and will respond to the students with the total bonus points. Bonus points may be used to substitute for objectives not complete (but not for Web Yoda exercises). (One exception: There are many bad links on previous semester syllabi and hidden files on the web site. Student using a link check, must one by one check the page to see if it is a current page that can be accessed. The Internet is dynamic and constantly changing. If the syllabus is not the current syllabus, then links on old syllabi do not count for bonus.)
